WRITTEN BY ALINE FADER
So I recently discovered by way of the Guggenheim that there is going to be a new book published by Actar entitled, The Arsenal of Exclusion and Inclusion, out next spring (2014) on the subtle tactics and tools humans have used to shape their territories. Often this means excluding unwanted residents and visitors. The authors are Tobias Armborst, Daniel D’Oca, and Georgeen Theodore of Interboro Partners.
In addition they have a neat little blog which has some lovely little teasers, especially this one on a fake gated community in Florida. I am definitely excited to see the book when it comes out next year!
Cities exist to bring people together, but cities are pretty good at keeping people apart, too. This is a blog about “weapons” used by architects, planners, policy-makers, developers, real estate brokers, community activists and other urban actors to wage the ongoing war between integration and segregation, between NIMBY (not in my back yard), and WIMBY (welcome in my back yard).
