About a year ago talk began about the NACTO* Urban Street Design Guide. This video indicates that it might be out next month! September 23, 2013 to be precise. You can even pre-order, if you are are into that sort of thing.
This guide may be an important step in helping to adjust Federal transportation priorities away from a totally car-centric view, hopefully. And that would be a big win for place-makers, economic development folks, safety enthusiasts and humans! I really appreciate that it appears from last year’s overview (click image to download the pdf) that they will be spending time not just on wide streets (which get so much attention), but also on the narrow streets and alleys that can sometimes seem neglected in comparison to high speed, heavily used broad-ways.
